Shillington is a borough in Berks County, Pennsylvania. It is located in the eastern portion of the state and it's part of the Philadelphia Metropolitan Area. The borough is considered to be a suburban community. According to the United States Census Bureau of 2000, Shillington has over 5,000 residents. The borough has a total area of 1.0 square miles. The racial demographics of Shillington are 97.11% White, 0.49% African American, 0.10% Native American, 0.53% Asian, 0.75% from other races, and 1.01% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were approximately 2% of the population. Shillington has more than 2,200 households. The median income for a household in the borough is $43,833, and the median income for a family is $52,500. Berks County is surrounded by six counties in southeastern Pennsylvania. The county has more than 370,000 residents living in an area of 866 square miles. Berks County is home to dozens of townships and boroughs. It is also home to Reading, the county seat and the fifth largest city in Pennsylvania. The county makes up the greater Reading Area.

Berks County has several post secondary educational institutions such as Albright College, Alvernia University, Kutztown University, Penn State Berks and Reading Area Community College. The county is served by more than a dozen public school districts as well as few private schools. Berks County is home to the two Pennsylvania State Parks of Nolde Forest Environmental Education Center and French Creek State Park. Berks County is home to the Reading Regional Airport, a public airport located just outside the central district of Reading. To meet cultural interests, Berks County is home to the Reading Public Museum.
